Domingo

redigér

Hello First Jumper,

I am surprised that you seem to believe that the Portuguese and Spanish word ”domingo” should derive from two different Latin words, i.e. ”dominicu” and ”dominĭcus”. In Ecclesiastical Latin the adjective dominicus/dominīcus (feminine dominica, neuter dominicum) means ”the Lord’s”. And so the latin ”dies Dominicus” (alternatively “dies Dominica”) literally means ”the Lord's day”, or in Danish ”Herrens dag” - actually as well explained in “Real Academia Española, Diccionario de la lengua española, 2014” (Del lat. dominĭcus [dies,], [día] del Señor) that you give as reference; and by the way also here: http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domingo (El nombre «domingo» proviene del latín dies Dominicus ('día del Señor')).

May I suggest that you for both Portuguse and Spanish go back to the original wording under “etymology”, namely “dominīcus, fra (diēs) Dominica (herrens dag)”. I see no reason to leave out the explanation that the original meaning in Latin was “herrens dag” (día del Señor), only it might probably be better to write “Herrens” with a capital.

And thank you by the way very much for your usually nice contributions.

Best wishes --Olelog (diskussion) 18. jun 2014, 20:27 (UTC)

Hej Oleog!
Thank you very much for your explanation. But for all that it is not a matter of believe. - Would you be so kind as to look at janeiro (etymologi). Is it better to spell "ianuarĭus" instead of "januariu"? Best regards Tris Prior (diskussion) 19. jun 2014, 05:40 (UTC)
I would prefer ”iānuārius” (or ”ianiarius”), cf ”mensis ianuarius”, the month of Janus. See a.o. declension of ianuaris in the English Wiktionary – nominative singular masculine + ”usage notes”, and http://ordnet.dk/ddo/ordbog?query=januar --Olelog (diskussion) 19. jun 2014, 07:08 (UTC)

Reverting

redigér

Why did you undo 2 of my edits? I'm trying to make the site prettier. Like the French Wiktionary. So here's what should happen. 1. we should not edit war, and keep the en-noun template as it is when I changed it or 2. we should make a new template that is just like it but revert en-noun to be back like it was before I edited it. Rædi Stædi Yæti {-skriv til mig-} 23. okt 2014, 03:35 (UTC)

I am sorry. According to my opinion you make sites uglier. By the way your unfriendly change (en-noun) without explanation has been the starting point. Tris Prior (diskussion) 23. okt 2014, 03:54 (UTC)

Jeg har fjernet de meningsløse ændringer som Ready Steady Yeti respektløs havde foretaget i en-noun. I have removed the meaningless changes respectlessly made by Ready Steady Yeti in en-noun. Med venlig hilsen --Olelog (diskussion) 28. okt 2014, 16:45 (UTC)

Names of Wikimedia languages

redigér

Dear First jumper,

we are initiating a long needed action - we would like to translate names of all Wikimedia languages to all Wikimedia languages in the next two months. We have noticed that you are very active on Wiktionary and that is the reason why we are taking liberty to contact you.

We hope that you would be interesting to help us in our endeavor - To make this action easier we have already prepared the list of all Wikimedia languages, and for each language we have already prepared the page with existing and missing translations. So when you go to the page for your language you would have two tasks - to check whether existing translations are OK and to fill in the missing one. The more detailed instruction are on the language page.

What are the benefits of this work?

  • We believe it is about time to have all Wikimedia languages translated to all Wikimedia languages :)
  • Translated languages will be parsed into Wiktionary and the resulting number of Wiktionary entries will be significant for each language. That could significantly increase the number of entries for less developed Wiktionaries, and improve the quality of entries in general.
  • Wikidata - this would be great contribution to Wikidata.
  • All other projects could benefit from this list (Wiki Travel :)), as we believe that certain amount of terms has to be properly translated to all languages.

We are gathered around the project Wiktionary Meets Matica Srpska and we hope that you would be interesting in working with us! If you have any questions you can ask them on the Names of Wikimedia languages discussion page or via personal emails.

Important notice: The data are licensed under CC0, as they should be incorporated into Wikidata at the end of the process.

If you don’t want to receive future announcement about the project, please leave a note on discussion page.

Thank you and looking forward to hear from you!

Deus - descendants

redigér

Why have you removed the descendants from deus? Are you going to remove them from the English Wiktionary as well? --Olelog (diskussion) 3. dec 2015, 07:13 (UTC)

  1. Afledte begreber ≠ descendants
  2. the list is not correct for example "deity" „deity“ i Oxford Dictionaries

First jumper (diskussion) 4. dec 2015, 04:03 (UTC)

It is not up to you to decide what "Afledte begreber" means or covers in Danish. Afledte ord = Descendants. Whether "Afledte ord og begreber" covers descendants has in fact been discussed in "Landsbybrønden", and this was the conclusion. It has been used in that sense in hundreds of pages. You are of course welcome to reopen that discussion in "Landsbybrønden". --Olelog (diskussion) 4. dec 2015, 06:57 (UTC)

A conclusion in a discussion is no rule. I think "arvord" is that what "descendants" mean. First jumper (diskussion) 7. dec 2015, 04:24 (UTC)

Arveord is just the opposite, they are not loanwords but words that have been in the relevant language for ever, not taken over from any other language. Please go to Landsbybrønden and have your discussion there. I am only following what has been common practise in the Danish Wiktionary even before my time and has been used on hundreds of pages without any Danes complaining. I don,t have any intention and no right to get that practise changed. I am only a common user using the rules set out by the Danish Wiktionary community. If you have claims, go somewhere else with them. Landbybrønden, one of the administrators, or whatever, but not me. --Olelog (diskussion) 7. dec 2015, 06:53 (UTC)

PS: By the way, until I retired I was a senior translator in one of the largest international organisations, so please don't try to teach me Danish! And please accept the Danish language as it is, and leave the handling of the Danish language to native speakers! --Olelog (diskussion) 7. dec 2015, 16:54 (UTC)

You've my apologies.First jumper (diskussion)

Biograf

redigér

May i draw your attention to the fact that all entries in DDO (Den Danske Ordbog) begin with a small letter. The same is the case with the Dikke van Dale. I have not checked with all my dictionaries, but I have the impression that this is common practice. I therefore don't understand your need to capitalize entries as you have done at biograf. I am in no way fanatical about this, and would never change anybody else's editing, just because they have started with a capital. You may have your fun if you wish, but I really find that sort of games childish. You seem however to find a pleasure in changing things that are correct? --Olelog (diskussion) 15. feb 2016, 18:13 (UTC)

PS: Just a relevant example (biograf) from DDO:
"en eller flere sale hvor der mod betaling forevises film på et stort lærred"
--Olelog (diskussion) 15. feb 2016, 18:16 (UTC)

Hi. I nominated your entry the American dream for deletion. I wanted to tell you why:

The English Wiktionary has an entry for en:American Dream (which is, yes, usually capitalized), and a redirect to that from en:American dream, but does not have en:the American dream or something similar. One could find the definition for "the American dream" by looking at the and American Dream, so having an entry would be pointless.

I'm really sorry, but no administrator will delete an accurate entry. First jumper (diskussion) 30. aug 2016, 04:21 (UTC)
The definition may be accurate, but the fact that it is here is a bad thing. The lemma is en:American Dream because that's the most common term. Adding "the" to the beginning makes it SOP. Don't we have rules about terms that are SOP here on dawiktionary? I really hope so. Philmonte101 (diskussion) 30. aug 2016, 22:16 (UTC)
Please don't use an other wiktionary as a reference. Read the reference of the entry. First jumper (diskussion) 31. aug 2016, 04:25 (UTC)
